Parish Annual Fall Lottery

Dear parishioners, supporters and all who frequent our services,

The Parish Annual Fall Lottery is coming soon and our Rector and Parish Council once again appeal to you for support in purchasing and selling the tickets.
The Annual Lottery is not a gamble as we do not distribute any profit from income or deficit. This is just another way to donate to our parish. The Lottery has been in practice for several years proving to be appreciated by parishioners as a successful tool to raise additional money and to make up for the shortfalls, especially after less active summer months. The construction, charitable, and church funds that support and maintain our Cathedral and Rawdon parish life are usually the recipients of the Lottery proceeds.
The number of “old” parishioners, who used to bear most of the burden of maintaining our parish, is slowly dwindling. For example, from 240 individuals in 1980 the number had fallen to 188 by 1990; then down to 110 in 2002, and in 2012 only about 100 active parishioners participated in the Lottery. So we appeal, in particular, to all you – “new” parishioners and all other 500 families of our constant Church goers – to support our parish.

We urge you to not only buy ticket for yourself, but also to sell them to your friends, acquaintances and colleagues. Participation of every one counts! To illustrate with an example of 2013: all sold tickets generated $1777 – not a big amount probably, but very significant for our budget. And most importantly – it became possible due to the collective efforts of the parishioners.

As you can see, the tickets cost is $1 each, and a book of 10 is $10. Additional tickets may be picked up at the Candle Desk in the church, or they can be ordered by calling the Parish office at 514-522-2801.
Please return the stubs of the sold tickets and the proceeds from their sale, as well as the unsold tickets, not later than October 19th, 2014, to the address which appears at the bottom of this letter, indicating on the envelope “Attention: Lottery”. Or, you may return them to the Candle Desk.
Please make cheques payable to SS. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Cathedral, and we request that you do not send cash by mail.
This year the main prize is $300 (in cash), second prize is $100; and there will be additional prizes as well. The names of the lucky winners will be drawn on October 26th, 2014, at the end of the Dinner following the Divine Liturgy.
We are counting on your support for distribution and sale of the Lottery tickets. Please accept in advance our thanks and our best wishes.
