Memories of John Barrett
Where do I begin… this very special and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother (Baba) was Xenia von Meyer (Sana). Born in Belgrave, on April 1, 1931. The daughter of Alexander and Tatjana but raised by her beloved grandparents. Was educated in Germany during the Second World War and miraculously survived. Immigrated to Canada in 1950 via Pier 21 in Halifax, one year before she was able to save enough money to get her grandparents here. Worked as a live-in nannie for Judge Challis and his beautiful family in Town of Mt. Royal. Lived with her grandparents in a one bedroom apartment in Westmount. Where in 1953, met my father in Westmount Park while playing tennis. Six weeks later on November 7, 1953 they married at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Montreal. They had two children, John and Nancy (Barrett). As a family there were some fun times in P.E.I. in ’69. My mother flew for the first time in ’69. Their time share on Sanibel Island, Florida from ’79 to ’04. Rawdon and the Eastern Townships.
The memories. The birth of her first grandchild, Alicia (Barrett). Followed up with Alex and Natalie (Treude). Her cherished grandchildren! Her infectious laugh, smile, positive disposition, generosity, listening, compliments, advise and most of all..LOVE LOVE! She loved others more than herself. Completely unselfish. Would do anything for her family. Anytime any place. She worked from ’64 to ’93 for the RCMP and CSIS as top Russian translator. Mom spoke five languages and wrote four. She loved traveling, especially with Alicia. She loved going to the Champlain Mall with her grandchildren! She loved playing board games especially Scrabble. After nearly 68 years of marriage her husband Norman Barrett, Grampa passed away November 1, 2020. That was tough and in time my mother went into a very slow decline. After being hospitalized she was placed in a CHSLD nursing home and then back to the Jewish General Hospital for almost five months and then to the CHSLD Pavillon Camille-Lefebvre in Lachine on September 24th. She passed away peacefully in Lachine on Saturday early morning, October 16, 2021. My mother was so supportive and loving beyond compare. Always encouraging. She will never be forgotten.
Rest in Peace mommy and give daddy a hug from me. Love you.

Известно, что ранее здание храма принадлежало англиканам. 168 лет назад они построили церковь для своих солдат – их форт занимал территорию от нас до самой реки. Храм был освящен и построен именно в честь св. апостола и евангелиста Луки.
